The Medal Class is by far the most popular class, not just for the social aspect, but because you'll master the real technique, have a routine you can follow in each dance for the entire year, and truly take your dancing from the social dancer plodding along off-time on the dance floor into a confident, graceful, and beautiful dancer. It is possible and we are passionate about helping you maximise your dance potential.

THIS CLASS IS PERFECT FOR:

• You want to extract the most from your Ballroom, Latin and New Vogue Dancing and move from Social dancing to Hobby Dancing. You may find you have a talent and want to compete later
• Have completed at least 1 Term of our Adult Starter Class
• Have danced at another studio
• Have completed previous Medal exams and want to continue or pick back up [please call to find an appropriate level with us]
• Rapidly improve your competition dancing [if you compete]
• Want to become a dance teacher in the future
• Venue: Collett Place, Pearce [Building 2]

We have designed this class to help those who want to master Ballroom dancing for any age or skill level. If you're new to dancing you'll start in the Leisure class and work your way up through Leisure 1, Leisure 2, and Leisure 3 medals.

At which point you'll be able to attend the Bronze + class. If you've done medals before in another studio, you'll need to check with us which class you've danced with before.

All Medals are regulated under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance Association I.S.T.D London, England. There are internationally recognized and prestigious achievements for all candidates to participate in.

Note: You must have completed through our Medal system to be eligible for the appropriate class. Please see teacher pertaining to exams hosted outside of the studio for your eligibility here.

Welcome and you are invited to be part of one of our most popular classes. Experience is not necessary because we will help you become the best dancer you can be. You'll also make a lot of friends along the way.

Our prestigious Medal Examinations have no age barrier or skill level to entry except a willingness to improve, we will help you take care of the rest.

How is The International Dance Studio recognized?

We have a long history in providing quality dance instruction to Canberra and since 2011 we have successfully passed over 756 medal candidates under the Imperial Society of the Teachers of Dance (I.S.T.D), London U.K, syllabus.

This is an internationally recognized society that founded the principles of Ballroom and Latin dancing. We are accredited under DanceSport Australia and conduct examinations under the Federal Association of the Teacher of Dance in Australia (F.A.T.D).

The directors of the studio, Vaughan and Alison are both 4 times World Professional 10 Dance Representatives, Australian Professional Ballroom, Latin and New Vogue finalists at National Championships. They have also completed all their Medal Examinations to the highest level and are Accredited teachers.

Your goals:

If your goal is to take your dancing to the highest level then Medal Exams are the starting point to excellent dancing. In the history of all outstanding dancers, you will find that Medal Exams were an integral part of their success.

We invite you to participate in our exams and would be honoured to share our rich heritage of Ballroom, Latin and New Vogue principles, technique and tradition.

WHAT IF I HAVE COMPLETED MEDALS IN ANOTHER STUDIO OR SYSTEM?

We will take that into account and assess your level according to our standards. Each studio generally will have different standards and grading. We want to make sure you are in the appropriate category so you do the best medal you can with us.

WHEN ARE EXAMS HELD?

We only conduct exams once per year, generally at the end of the year.

IS THERE A SEPARATE COST TO THE EXAMS?

Yes. Each medal you do has a cost to it which covers using a highly qualified examiner, hall hire, medal costs, administration, and other expenses.

WHAT IS CONTACTLESS DANCING?

In the current climate and to protect our studio patrons we do not require our teachers to dance with students but it is at their discretion. 

We also do not require other students to dance with other students and we do not force those who came with partners to swap.

WHAT CLOTHING & SHOES DO I WEAR?

LADIES: Low or high-heeled enclosed shoes and non-restrictive clothing. We don’t recommend mini-shorts or pencil skirts or gym shoes are they restrict movement.

MEN: Enclosed leather shoes are best. We don’t recommend shorts or jeans, no tank tops and sneakers will grip too much.

DO I NEED A PARTNER TO ATTEND ANY CLASS?

Absolutely NOT. All individuals are welcomed and encouraged.

If you have a partner we do not for you to swap and dance with others.

DO I NEED PREVIOUS DANCE EXPERIENCE?

Heck no! This is for RAW dancers, those who have never learned to dance before.

NO experience is necessary.

FUN is a must!

DO YOU OFFER A "TASTER" OR FREE CLASS?

No, but we can offer you a FREE class if you pre-purchase an 8-Dance Card, you collect it on your first lesson and we stamp the first lessons out of it for you to use upfront. It saves you $35 over 8 classes and gives you 1 free, essentially you're paying for 7 classes but get access to 8 classes.

They easily roll over month to month you just need to register for each month you dance with us. It expires within 6-months and is non-refundable, exchanged or transferable.

Otherwise, just pay for your first classes by selecting the appropriate ticket option.

DO YOU STILL ACCEPT CASH?

Only for 8-Dance Cards.

Choose: PRE-PAID [8-Dance Card] Option.

Then it will reserve your spot and you'll need to pay when you arrive. You will be clipped for the classes [regardless of when you begin your lessons] as we have to keep numbers in line.​ You're agreeing to pay for your card even if you change your mind as you are taking the spot away from someone else.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE MONTH OF CLASSES IS FINISHED?

The majority of people who start dancing with us continue.

In this class, people often stay with us for years because it is so much fun and also the depth of learning across multiple dances and dance styles keep the interest high.

You can also opt to join the Medal Class on Wednesday's at 7:00-8:00pm.

I HAVE AN 8-DANCE CARD ALREADY, WHAT DO I DO?

Choose the ticket type PRE-PAID [8-Dance Card] option at checkout [NO CHARGE HERE].

We will stamp your card for the full amount of classes for that month when you come in. 

You must bring your valid 8-dance card with you.

MY 8-DANCE CARD DOESN’T HAVE ENOUGH REMAINING ON IT, WHAT DO I DO?

You have two main options:

1. Buy a new card now, collect it in the studio on the first class.
2. Use the PRE-PAID [8-Dance Card] option and then pay CASH for a new card or the difference between what you have on your card and the remaining classes for the month.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE A CLASS?

We honour commitment so by signing up you're committing to ALL classes above otherwise, you are taking the spot of someone else for that class. We can’t offer refunds, credits or transfers for any missed classes. If you have an emergency or pressing issue then contact us and we may be able to work out a suitable class transfer.

Each year we create 1 routine only for you to learn per dance, per style.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE CLASSES?

Simply select your Ticket option then save the date and turn up 10-minutes early on the first class.

The fine print:

*We reserve the right to cancel any class for any reason and will offer a refund OR transference to a new class start date.

8-DANCE CARD T & C:

*Your card will be clipped for the number of lessons for that month, in advance. You can then use the remaining amount on your card toward next month’s class. If you don’t have enough to cover the class you can purchase a new card or pay the difference in cash.

*Lost cards are not replaced so please look after it.

*Card is flexible but must be used within 6-months.

*Class registrations are non-transferable. No refunds or exchanges or credits are issued once we begin the first class.

*You may cancel your spot and be issued a full refund or transfer your registration to the next month WE MUST RECEIVE THIS NOTICE BY 12PM ON THE MONDAY BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS STARTS.
